Free trial terms and privacy
Canine Diaries is a daily-update service for dog boarding and training businesses. These terms cover the free trial and how we handle information. Questions: [email protected].
Signing up
- You must be 18 or older and allowed to act for the business you sign up.
- You choose your business name and address (yourname.caninediaries.com) and confirm your email to start.
The free trial
- 30 days, free, no card.
- Trial limits: up to 5 team members, 20 owners, 10 dogs, 5 GB of photos and video, and email to 100 recipients a day (counted from midnight UTC).
- Emails during the trial go only to people who have accepted their invitation or signed in. Invitations, sign-in links and feedback sent to us are the exception. This keeps unwanted email out of strangers' inboxes. Each email your business sends during the trial ends with a short line saying it's a Canine Diaries trial and when it ends.
- Reminders a week before the trial ends and the day before.
- Fair use: use Canine Diaries for your own dog care business. Don't send spam, pretend to be another business, or upload anything unlawful. We can pause a business that does.
When the trial ends
- Your business is paused: its pages show a short notice and nothing else, and its photos stay private.
- We email you a link to ask to upgrade to full membership. We review each request. If you ask before the trial ends, it isn't paused while we review it. If you ask while it's paused, it stays paused but nothing is deleted while we review it.
- If you don't ask within 7 days of the pause, we delete everything in your business: people, dogs, bookings, updates, photos and videos. We keep a short record (the business name and address, the name, email address and time zone you signed up with, and our logs), so the address isn't given to anyone else. That record stays in our backups too.
- Backups made before the deletion, with everything in it, expire within 30 days.
What we keep
- From sign-up: your name, email address, business name, address and time zone.
- Inside your business: what you and your team add (people's names, email addresses and phone numbers, and owners' addresses and emergency contacts if given; dogs' details; bookings; daily updates, photos, videos, training notes and comments).
- Replies owners send to a daily update email, which become comments on that update.
- Feedback anyone sends with the Feedback button, with their name, email address and the page they were on.
- Sign-in and security records: a sign-in cookie on each device; passwords, if anyone sets one, stored only in a scrambled form that can't be turned back into the password; how many sign-in emails were asked for, with network addresses also scrambled; and logs of errors and failed emails.
Who can see it
- Your team, and the owners on each booking. Each family sees only their own dogs.
- Canine Diaries, only to run and support the service, for example when you ask for help or send feedback.
- We don't sell your information. The service providers below process it only to run the service.
- Each photo and video has its own long, unguessable link, so it can show in emails. Anyone an owner forwards an update to can open its photos.
Who helps us
Canine Diaries runs on service providers that host it, store its photos and send its emails.
Your choices
- During the trial, or while it's paused, a business owner can ask us at [email protected] for a copy of the business's information. We'll send it within 5 business days.
- To delete it early, ask us the same way. We pause it at once and delete it within 7 days.
- Owners and staff can ask their business, or us, to delete their own information.
- Owners can turn update emails off from the link in any update email or on their profile.
Changes
If we change these terms, we'll email business owners before the change takes effect.
